Description


I built this piece entirely from T-304 stainless steel using my TIG welder. The arms are made from 3/32" stainless welding rod. They form a perfect spiral all the way from bottom to top.

The arms were made by first drilling a hole into the main trunk that was a very precise fit for the arm. At first, the arm was twice and long, so this was inserted all the way through so it was even on both sides. Finally, using the TIG, I melted one side of the arm, causing it to drop off and weld the remaining piece to the inside of the trunk. This had a secondary effect of leaving a neat looking spiral pattern of weld points all the way up.
